A DAY IN CIMIEZ: WHAT TO SEE AND DO

Perched on the hills above Nice, Cimiez reveals a quieter and more cultural side of the city.

Museums, ancient ruins, gardens and religious heritage can all be discovered over the course of a day, away from the bustle of the seafront.

Start at the Matisse Museum

Housed in a 17th-century Genoese villa in the heart of the Arènes gardens, the Matisse Museum is one of the neighbourhood’s must-see attractions.

Its collection traces the artistic journey and creative explorations of Henri Matisse, who had a deep connection with Nice.

In 2026, the visit takes on a special dimension with the exhibition Henri Matisse – Yves Saint Laurent. Beauty, Fashion and Happiness, running until September 28, 2026.

Created in collaboration with the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris, the exhibition brings together two major figures of the 20th century through art, fashion and creativity.

Step Back in Time at the Cimiez Arenas

Just a few steps from the museum, travel back in time at the ancient site of Cemenelum.

The remains offer a glimpse into Nice’s Roman past, including an amphitheatre and ancient thermal baths.

Nearby, the Arènes de Cimiez gardens, shaded by centuries-old olive trees, provide the perfect setting for a peaceful stroll or a relaxing break.

Discover the Monastery and Its Gardens

Continue your walk towards the Cimiez Monastery, before exploring its beautiful Italian-inspired gardens.

With flower beds, a rose garden and fruit trees, this peaceful setting offers a wonderful escape as well as panoramic views over Nice and the surrounding landscape.

A different way to discover Nice

Combining modern art, Roman history and Mediterranean gardens, Cimiez is an ideal destination for a day of cultural discovery.

A delightful escape to include during a stay at Le Soleia, and a wonderful opportunity to experience another side of Nice, beyond its beaches and iconic coastline.
